French may not be commonly spoken in Malaysia, but there are certain words that are known by a number of people. Typically, most people would know the word Bonjour, which translates to “Good Day” but it’s also used for “Hello.” However, a recent advertisement showed a word saying “MerdeKids.”

Unfortunately, the word “Merde” is not an appropriate word in French. Social media users expressed their shock with this revelation. Typically, most copywriting would try to avoid inappropriate words for their campaign, regardless of the language. 

Others add that there is another French word called Mer, which means the sea, and if there’s a gap between the words, it would have meant “children of the sea.”
