Malaysia will face a 19% tariff from the United States after refusing to cross “red lines” in negotiations, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz said. He stressed Malaysia will not retaliate, as the US remains a key investor and export market.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim earlier reaffirmed that Bumiputera policies will not be compromised, even if deemed discriminatory by external parties.
Tengku Zafrul noted risks of future sectoral tariffs, especially on semiconductors, while highlighting Malaysia’s strategy to diversify through new trade deals with South Korea, the EU, the GCC, and upgraded ASEAN partnerships.
