A 39-year-old English teacher, Siti Hajar Aflah Sharuddin, was brought to the Sepang Magistrate’s Court today over a charge of spreading false claims that allegedly caused public alarm. She was accused of posting on her TikTok account, “SHA_Abrienda,” stating that teenager Zara Qairina Mahathir had been placed inside a washing machine.

The post, uploaded at 1.20 pm on August 6, was deemed capable of sparking public unrest. When the charge was read before Magistrate Khairatul Animah Jelani, the teacher pleaded not guilty. The court has set the case for further mention while investigations into the viral statement continue.
