BUKIT MERTAJAM: Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh pleaded not guilty in the magistrate’s court today to a charge of making a Facebook post that allegedly caused public fear. The Merlimau assemblyman was charged under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code. He arrived at the court at 8.27am, greeted by his wife, mother, relatives and lawyers, as over 150 supporters gathered outside waving Jalur Gemilang and solidarity banners. Police controlled the crowd, which had assembled since 7.15am. Akmal said he understood the charge but requested to be tried.
