UMNO Youth Chief and Merlimau assemblyman, Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, pleaded not guilty at the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate’s Court today to a charge of making a statement likely to cause public fear and unrest.
Bukit Mertajam Court Hears Case Against UMNO Youth Leader
The charge, read before Magistrate Nurul Rashidah Mohd Akit, relates to a social media post allegedly made around 3pm on August 11. Prosecutors argued the statement could spark alarm among the public.
The case was brought under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to two years in prison, a fine, or both. Akmal was represented by lawyer Aizat Azam’s team.
