PETALING JAYA: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has defended its recent eviction notices to People’s Housing Programme (PPR) residents, saying they stemmed from high arrears, expired rental agreements, and ineligibility. Between January and July, DBKL issued 5,307 tenancy renewal reminders, receiving 3,379 applications, of which 348 were rejected. Reasons included household incomes above RM4,000, home ownership within 35km of Kuala Lumpur, non-citizen spouses, and subletting. DBKL stressed that enforcement ensures public housing is reserved for truly eligible residents. Affected tenants, including persons with disabilities, have pleaded for reconsideration, with DBKL noting appeals remain possible within 30 days.
