The Ministry of Health has begun a mapping exercise to identify traditional medicine practitioners and practices among indigenous communities in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak. Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni said the initiative, conducted with universities, policymakers, tribal leaders, and researchers, will form the basis for a strategic recognition plan.

He noted that traditional medicine goes beyond treatment, embodying lifestyle, spirituality, emotional support, and cultural identity. Lukanisman stressed the need for collaboration between modern and traditional practices to build holistic healthcare. Programmes such as dialogue sessions and knowledge-sharing will help preserve and elevate these heritage practices.
