Homegrown burger chain myBurgerLab has dismissed its chief operating officer, Andrew Chong, over controversial remarks on Terengganu’s fine for Muslim men who skip Friday prayers without valid reasons.

The company said Chong’s comments on social media had angered and hurt the Muslim community, stressing that they did not reflect its values of respect, unity, and inclusivity.

In a statement, myBurgerLab apologised, condemned any form of religious disrespect, and announced mandatory cultural sensitivity training for all staff with guidance from Jakim. The eatery pledged to rebuild public trust through greater vigilance.

Chong later accepted the decision, saying his post was a personal view and apologising again for the hurt caused. His sacking followed widespread backlash and boycott calls.
