A woman in Shanxi, China, has been returned to prison after evading her five-year fraud sentence by repeatedly getting pregnant. Under Chinese law, pregnant women or those breastfeeding may serve their sentences outside prison under community correction. 

Woman Jailed After Using Pregnancies to Dodge Prison Sentence in China

Exploiting this, she gave birth to three children between 2020 and 2024 with the same man. Her scheme was exposed when prosecutors discovered her third child was legally registered under her sister-in-law’s care. 

Investigations revealed she was divorced, with two children living with her ex-husband. She has less than a year left to serve, prompting calls for legal reforms to prevent similar abuses.
