PETALING JAYA: A dispute that erupted between DAP Youth and Johor Umno Youth over the 30-day closure of a Pontian dental clinic after an upside-down flag incident grew into a wildfire. DAP Youth slammed the Pontian Municipal Council’s punishment as excessive, warning it erodes public trust and unfairly penalises small businesses. It accused authorities of double standards, noting lighter treatment in similar cases involving PAS and Umno-linked groups. Johor Umno Youth, however, defended the closure, calling it a necessary reminder to respect the national flag ahead of Merdeka. The clash underscores lingering political divides between Malay-majority Umno and Chinese-majority DAP.
