KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 23 — The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has launched an investigation after Tabung Haji (TH) lodged reports over defamatory and inflammatory videos targeting the institution. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the case is being probed under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries fines up to RM500,000. He warned that individuals spreading slander are being identified and will face legal action. TH chief Mustakim Mohamad said reckless accusations could confuse the public and undermine TH’s branding initiatives. Fahmi also urged Malaysians not to be easily misled by false online claims.
