The Alor Setar High Court has ruled that Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail defamed Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor in 2023. Judge Dr John Lee Kien How @ Mohamad Johan Lee ordered Saifuddin to pay RM600,000 in damages and RM70,000 in costs. The court also directed him to publish an apology in Malay and English newspapers within 14 days. The case involved allegations linking Sanusi to rare earth element (REE) theft and misuse of MARRIS funds. An injunction now bars Saifuddin from repeating the defamatory remarks.
