The Kelantan Customs Department foiled a major rice smuggling attempt, seizing 173.35 tonnes of rice worth RM468,045 in coordinated raids across Tanah Merah, Pasir Mas and Jeli between July 15 and August 15.
3,467 Sacks of Rice Confiscated in Kelantan Anti-Smuggling Raid
Six lorry drivers and attendants were detained, while vehicles valued at RM1.39 million were confiscated. The operation uncovered 3,467 sacks of rice smuggled via small lorries before being transferred to larger trailers.
The largest seizure—45 tonnes—was recorded in Kampung Telaga Bijih. Investigations are ongoing under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act. Authorities pledged tighter security at ICQS entry points and demolition of 153 illegal jetties along Sungai Golok.
