A heated debate broke out in Parliament after Datuk Rosol Wahid (PN-Hulu Terengganu) controversially called for the return of corporal punishment in schools to address rising bullying cases. His remarks followed shocking tragedies, including the death of 13-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir at a Sabah boarding school and a Form Three student critically injured in Sabak Bernam.

The Parliamentary Special Select Committee, chaired by Yeo Bee Yin (PH-Puchong), instead urged systemic reforms, presenting 17 recommendations. These include making anti-bullying guidelines mandatory, recruiting trained wardens from police or military backgrounds, and improving complaint channels. Public concern continues mounting as calls grow for student safety and balanced discipline.
