KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 3,021 nurses left Malaysia to work overseas last year, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad revealed. Of the figure, 2,554 (84.5%) were from private healthcare facilities, 353 (11.7%) from Health Ministry institutions and 114 (3.8%) from other public providers. He said the exodus was mainly driven by better pay abroad and stronger foreign exchange rates. To address the issue, the government has introduced career progression schemes, salary adjustments under the Public Service Remuneration System, an eight per cent pay rise in December 2024 and another seven per cent from January 2025.
