A debate has come up on social media where a stall seller responded to comments criticising her business decision on selling drinks for RM22. Her claim is that big brands like Zus Coffee, Coffee Bean, etc are able to keep their costs low in lieu of them buying in bulk, which street vendors simply can’t afford to.

However, netizens responded back by saying that these bigger establishments, as mentioned earlier, are renting spaces in prime locations easily for RM40,000 a month. Social media users also claim that street vendors are not paying rent for their spot, and are asking why are the costs for these items almost as high or if not, even higher than those of bigger chains.

Others state that consumers should ask these sorts of questions as money is something that is hard to come by. Regardless, it is up to the consumers if they’d want to support a business based on certain amenities. There could be a possibility that some of the roadside sellers have unique offerings or special recipes.
