KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 29): National shuttlers Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah created history by securing Malaysia’s first-ever women’s doubles medal at the Badminton World Championships. The world No. 2 pair stormed into the semi-finals after defeating Bulgaria’s Gabriela and Stefani Stoeva 21-15, 21-10 in just 32 minutes at the Adidas Arena in Paris on Friday.

With the win, Pearly-Thinaah guaranteed themselves at least a bronze medal, surpassing their quarter-final finish in Copenhagen last year. The Malaysians will next face Japan’s world No. 3 duo, Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida, for a place in the final.
