KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 29): The Umno Veterans Club said Barisan Nasional’s (BN) push to delay the Urban Renewal Bill proves the coalition is not a puppet of DAP. Club secretary Mustapha Yaakub said Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan’s timely intervention convinced Putrajaya to defer the bill to the next Dewan Rakyat meeting. He stressed that BN leaders were unafraid to speak up despite claims of external influence. The bill, first tabled on Aug 21, had reached its second reading before the postponement. Mustapha hailed Mohamad’s move as a strategic win for BN.
