Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced Malaysia’s efforts to diversify its semiconductor markets beyond traditional destinations, with a strong focus on China and Japan. Speaking at Tianjin University, he noted Malaysia’s position as Southeast Asia’s semiconductor hub, with over 60% of exports currently going to the United States.

Anwar highlighted China’s rapid technological rise as an opportunity for collaboration, stressing the importance of talent development in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. He confirmed ongoing discussions with Chinese semiconductor players to explore new strategies. This marks Anwar’s fourth working visit to China since taking office in November 2022.
