SEGAMAT, Sept 2 — The Johor Minerals and Geoscience Department (JMG) has yet to confirm if surface cracks here are linked to a series of minor earthquakes since Aug 24. Director Noorazhar Ngatimin said early studies suggest the fissures formed in softer soil layers rather than hard bedrock, making a direct seismic link uncertain. A 2D resistivity survey detected subsurface cracks at depths of 30–35m but was not designed to measure tremors. Dry weather and local geology may also be factors. Six aftershocks have been recorded, the latest on Aug 30 at 2.7 magnitude.
