Calls Grow Now for Grimsby’s Carabao Cup Expulsion Over Ineligible Player

LONDON, Sept 3 — Grimsby Town’s historic Carabao Cup upset against Manchester United has been overshadowed by controversy after fielding ineligible player Clarke Oduor. Despite being fined, the Mariners were allowed to progress to the third round, where they will face Sheffield Wednesday. Pundits Darren Bent and Jason Cundy have since demanded Grimsby’s expulsion, arguing competition rules must be applied consistently. Cundy told talkSPORT that United should not be reinstated, but Wednesday should advance automatically. He stressed that rule breaches cannot be overlooked simply due to club size, insisting “if there’s a law, it should be the same for everyone.”
