A Shenzhen-based tech firm, Insta360 (Arashi Vision Inc), has drawn widespread attention with its “Million Yuan Weight Loss Challenge,” offering employees cash rewards of up to 1 million yuan (RM613,000) for losing weight.
Shenzhen Tech Firm Pays Staff to Lose Weight
Launched on August 12, the initiative promotes healthy living through exercise and diet, rewarding 500 yuan (RM300) for every 0.5 kilogram shed. This year’s champion, Xie Yaqi, lost 18 kilograms in 90 days, earning 20,000 yuan (RM12,200).
Since 2022, seven rounds of the challenge have seen nearly 2 million yuan in rewards distributed. A penalty clause fines weight regain, though no employee has yet been penalised.
