WASHINGTON – US president Donald Trump has once again found himself the subject of ridicule after devoting large parts of a White House dinner speech to the lifespan of grass – his fourth such ramble in less than a month.
At a Rose Garden dinner with Republican lawmakers on Friday, Trump declared: “You don’t know this, grass has a life. Grass has a life like we have a life. It’s so long. Guess what? It expired about 40 years ago in these parks. We’re going to re-grass them with the best guys in the country.”
The life of Grass
The remarks came as the garden itself has been paved over to make way for a $200 million ballroom project. Hours earlier, in an Oval Office press conference, Trump had again claimed: “I’m very good at grass. Grass has a life just like you have a life. It has a life. This grass has been up longer than—it’s like four lives.”
These latest comments follow two earlier “grass speeches” in August, where Trump boasted of re-grassing parks in Washington D.C. and claimed he knows “more about grass than any human being” thanks to his golf courses.
Mockery
Social media erupted with mockery after his latest musings, with users dubbing him “the Lawn Care President” and joking that he is running a “grass administration.” Critics say the rambling reflects his tendency to fixate on trivial topics even amid pressing national issues.
Trump has not responded to the online backlash.
