JAKARTA: At least three people were killed and 84 injured when a community hall collapsed during a Koran recital in Bogor, West Java, today. Local disaster official Mochamad Adam Hamdani said about 100 people, mostly women, had gathered to commemorate the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday when the structure gave way. “Perhaps the structure was not strong, as people were enthusiastic to follow the event,” he said. Victims were rushed to nearby hospitals, with most suffering minor injuries. Authorities ruled out rain or landslides as causes. Building safety has been a recurring concern in Indonesia, with several deadly collapses in recent years.
