Bersatu has defended its decision to nominate Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister candidate, stressing it was made according to the party’s constitution and based on his leadership merits.

Information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said Muhyiddin’s proven record during the Covid-19 crisis and his governance experience justify the move. He emphasized that the decision was a Bersatu resolution, not Perikatan Nasional’s, and must be respected as the party’s right.
While PAS leaders have expressed reservations, Tun Faisal reiterated that all PN components are free to propose their own candidates, with the final decision to be made by consensus.
