The renomination of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as Bersatu’s prime ministerial candidate underscores the party’s reliance on his credibility and influence. Political analyst Associate Professor Dr Mohd Azhar Abd Hamid said Muhyiddin remains the most trusted figure within Perikatan Nasional, especially among grassroots supporters. His experience leading Malaysia during the Covid-19 crisis and his international networks place him ahead of potential successors, including his deputy. Azhar noted Bersatu lacks equally strong contenders, making Muhyiddin the coalition’s best hope for GE16. However, he faces a tough challenge against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, whose approval rating stood at 55% in June 2025.
