High Court Acquits Mechanic of Drug Trafficking Charge

The High Court acquitted and discharged mechanic Mohd Faizal Mazlan, 35, of a drug trafficking charge after ruling that the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case. Judge Datuk Hassan Abdul Ghani highlighted significant gaps in the prosecution’s case before ordering Faizal’s release.

High Court Acquits Mechanic of Drug Trafficking Charge

He had been accused of trafficking 19.98 grams of heroin at Kampung Paya Beril Paka, Dungun, on November 3, 2022. The charge, under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, carries the death penalty or life imprisonment with mandatory whipping if convicted. Eleven witnesses were called during the trial. Faizal was represented by lawyer Mohd Azrul Hasyimi.
