KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10 – Islamic preacher Dr Zakir Naik’s lawyer has dismissed viral social media claims alleging the preacher is suffering from AIDS. “It is rubbish, fake news and absolutely untrue,” lawyer Akberdin Abdul Kadir told Malaysiakini, adding that Zakir is currently abroad. Recent online posts claimed the Indian-born preacher, who holds Malaysian permanent residency, was hospitalised at a private medical facility. Zakir has been controversial since 2019, when remarks against Chinese and Indian Malaysians triggered police probes and a public speaking ban. Despite restrictions, he appeared at a religious ceramah in Perlis earlier this year.
