PUTRAJAYA – The cabinet has agreed to fully separate the powers of the attorney-general and public prosecutor through amendments to the Federal Constitution. Government spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil said the decision followed a two-year study and a review of several models, with both positions to be established independently and equally in the Constitution. Minister Azalina Othman Said’s office confirmed that Articles 145, 183 and 42 will be amended, alongside a new Law Reform (Public Prosecutor) Bill affecting 18 related Acts. A separate remuneration act will also be introduced. Implementation will proceed in phases with structural and procedural adjustments.
