The Malaysian Media Council (MMC) has urged police to allow journalists full access to cover the eviction of residents at Kampung Sungai Baru, stressing that restrictions undermine transparency and public trust.

While acknowledging the need to maintain order, the council warned that barring reporters deprives the public of reliable information, especially amid rising risks of AI-generated misinformation. It called for cooperation between media and authorities to ensure both safety and accountability.

The eviction, carried out under a court order, turned chaotic when Dang Wangi police chief ACP Suzilme Affendy Sulaiman sustained a head injury, an incident condemned by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
