PETALING JAYA — Family Frontiers, an NGO advocating equal citizenship rights, has criticised deputy minister Fuziah Salleh for suggesting foreigners marry Malaysians to run businesses. The group said such remarks misrepresent the struggles of binational families, where non-citizen spouses face visa restrictions that often bar them from formal employment. Many are compelled to register businesses under their Malaysian spouse’s name or seek informal work. The NGO warned these policies shift financial burdens onto Malaysian spouses, particularly women, and harm the economy since binational families spend and pay taxes locally rather than sending earnings abroad.
