An immigration officer was sentenced to eight years in prison and fined RM150,000 by the High Court for falsifying a Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) travel document to aid the smuggling of a Vanuatu national in 2022.

Judge Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid ruled that the defence failed to raise reasonable doubt against Shamsudin Ishak, 51. In default of payment, he faces an additional year’s jail. The Court granted a stay of execution pending appeal, with bail raised to RM30,000. The case marks the first conviction under Section 26E of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.
