KOTA KINABALU — Thirteen-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir was most likely conscious when she fell from her school hostel, a forensic pathologist told the Coroner’s Court. Dr Jessie Hiu testified that Zara’s injuries indicated she landed feet first, making it unlikely she had been unconscious or carried. She added that Zara’s trauma was consistent with a fall from height, not a blow from a blunt object. Zara was found unconscious at SMKA Tun Datu Mustapha’s dormitory on July 16 and died a day later. The inquest, ongoing since September 3, seeks to clarify her cause of death amid investigation concerns.
