Prominent lawyer and activist Siti Kasim has urged authorities not to misuse state power in the Kampung Sungai Baru eviction controversy, warning that legal instruments must not be weaponised against ordinary citizens. She said forcing residents out while court cases are still pending undermines justice and disrespects the judiciary. “Isn’t it an insult to the courts if eviction proceeds before all appeals are exhausted? What if residents eventually win? Their homes will already be gone,” she stressed. Her comments follow rising tensions after a district police chief was injured during the recent eviction operation, drawing ministerial condemnations.
