KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 15 The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has confirmed receiving the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) full probe report on RM170 million linked to former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and his ex-political secretary Anuar Yunus.

While MACC has initiated civil forfeiture proceedings, the AGC stressed this does not preclude criminal action. It said the investigation report, including statements and evidence, will be thoroughly reviewed before deciding on charges. Although Ismail Sabri has chosen not to contest the forfeiture, critics warn this should not exempt him from possible prosecution.
“The MACC has initiated civil forfeiture proceedings against the said cash in favour of the government without any criminal prosecution, in accordance with the relevant legal provisions,” the AGC said.
