PETALING JAYA: After decades of friendship and aligned political battles, Barisan Nasional (BN) may soon shrink further, with MIC and MCA weighing an exit that would leave only Umno and PBRS in the coalition. An MIC insider said the party is “85% certain” about leaving, with the final decision expected at its annual general meeting next month.

Faltering BN coalition
Four state liaison committees have already voted to sever ties. MIC leaders, including president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran, recently met former BN chairman Najib Razak in a move described as a gesture of respect rather than consultation. MCA is also debating a withdrawal, with the matter to be tabled at its general assembly later this year. Both parties are discontented over their lack of representation in the Unity Government, further eroding BN’s relevance since its GE14 defeat.
