Police Probe Umany Over Matriculation Abolition Call

Police are investigating the University of Malaya New Youth Association (Umany) following its call to abolish the matriculation system and use STPM results as the sole benchmark for public university admissions. 

Police probing Umany

According to Criminal Investigation Department Director M Kumar, five police reports have been filed, with four more received from dissatisfied parties. Authorities say the statement could create negative perceptions of the national education system and stir public unrest. 

The case is being investigated under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. Investigations are ongoing to assess the impact and intent.
