PAS has declared itself ready to take on a bigger leadership role within Perikatan Nasional (PN), including the chairmanship, which was once offered by Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin. Secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the party’s readiness stems from its parliamentary strength of 43 MPs, control of four state governments, and its position as Malaysia’s longest-lasting mainstream party with a 74-year history.
Party claims bigger role in Perikatan Nasional leadership
He added that PAS’ prime ministerial candidate will be determined based on the mandate of its 71st muktamar, the party’s highest decision-making body. While Bersatu recently reaffirmed Muhyiddin as its PM candidate, PAS leaders have signaled they want a bigger say, stressing that PN’s future leadership must reflect strength, integrity, and public confidence.
