Tyler Robinson, 22, made his first court appearance in Utah via video link, facing seven charges including aggravated murder and witness tampering. Prosecutors have announced they will seek the death penalty. Robinson, who wore a vest designed to prevent self-harm, did not enter a plea. The charges stem from the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, 31, who was fatally shot last Wednesday in what authorities allege was a politically motivated attack.

Prosecutors presented disturbing evidence, including messages Robinson sent to his transgender roommate, with whom he was in a relationship. In one note, Robinson wrote he had the “opportunity to take Kirk out,” later admitting in messages he had hoped to “keep this secret till I died of old age.” Investigators believe Robinson used his grandfather’s rifle in the killing.
