Recently, it is said that the beautiful island of Langkawi has lost almost 40% of its tourists. Some social media users claim that it’s due to the high prices of the island. Additionally, the current economic situation isn’t really helping as tightening of budgets will continue on.
Is Langkawi more expensive than Phuket?
An X user posted a comparison of international branded hotels in both Langkawi and Phuket. They are of the same company, same type of room, and the prices are significantly different. Their Langkawi branch is allegedly almost 3x the price of the one in Phuket.
Others add that the price increase throughout the board has given less incentives to local tourists to re-visit the island. Regardless, it isn’t really an apple to apple comparison, but for the consumer, they may choose whichever suits their budget.
