KUALA LUMPUR: As opposition parties debate their prime ministerial hopefuls, former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad and PAS leaders have warned that the exercise is pointless without securing a parliamentary majority. Mahathir stressed that naming candidates is meaningless if no party can realistically win 112 seats, the minimum needed to form a government.
Mahathir, PAS leaders stress unity, say PN must prioritise Sabah polls and 112-seat majority over naming PM candidate
Echoing him, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden urged Perikatan Nasional (PN) to focus on unity and strategy instead of internal jockeying. Tuan Ibrahim said announcing a prime ministerial pick prematurely only invites rival attacks, adding that PN’s priority should be the Sabah state election before eyeing Putrajaya. He reminded allies Bersatu, Gerakan, and MIPP that distractions could undermine coalition strength.
