KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 — A new Malaysia Consumer Trend Report 2025 has revealed that while 91% of Malaysians are open to buying sustainable products, cost remains the biggest barrier. The nationwide survey of 500 respondents found that most are only willing to pay less than 10% more for eco-friendly items, highlighting a gap between environmental concern and actual purchasing behaviour.
Eco-Friendly Green Purchases Grow, Yet Price Sensitivity Slows Adoption
Beyond price, credibility and accessibility are also stumbling blocks, with 32.4% of consumers doubting green claims and 18.2% saying sustainable products are hard to find. Daily habits reflect this gap: only 48.8% consistently practice the 3Rs — Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Central Force International CEO See Toh Wai Yu said businesses must step in with practical solutions like refill schemes and reward programs to turn awareness into consistent green action.
