The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has fined Sin Chew Media Corporation Berhad and Sinar Karangkraf Sdn Bhd RM100,000 each, with approval from the Attorney General’s Chambers.

Jalur Gemilang Error

Sin Chew was penalised for uploading an incomplete Jalur Gemilang illustration, while Sinar Karangkraf faced action over false claims about the Inspector-General of Police on Instagram. Both cases fall under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

MCMC stressed the importance of accurate representation of national symbols and warned that false content involving security institutions could undermine public trust. The commission pledged stronger enforcement and digital literacy efforts moving forward.
