Sept 18 (Reuters) — U.S. President Donald Trump has welcomed ABC’s suspension of late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, intensifying debate over free speech and political pressure. Speaking in Britain, Trump said Kimmel “said a horrible thing” about slain right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, a close ally credited with mobilizing young conservatives.
Kimmel and the Kirk murder
ABC pulled Jimmy Kimmel Live indefinitely after the comedian mocked Trump’s reaction to Kirk’s Sept. 10 assassination in Utah and accused conservatives of exploiting the tragedy. Critics, including Barack Obama, condemned the move as unconstitutional censorship, blaming government pressure and regulatory threats. Kimmel, who frequently ridicules Trump, has not commented. Trump dismissed Kimmel as untalented with poor ratings. A Utah college student has been charged with Kirk’s killing.
