New: Maybank Denies Merdeka 118 Sign Removal Amid Backlash

1 min read

Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) has refuted claims that its signage on Merdeka 118 is being removed, calling circulated photos fake. A spokesman clarified that only the “MAY” portion has been installed, with “BANK” yet to follow. The sign’s appearance has sparked debate, with critics decrying it as “commercialisation” of a national landmark, while others argue it will not affect the tower’s identity. Maybank, relocating from Menara Maybank under a 21-year tenancy, will occupy 33 floors of the building with 5,900 staff. As anchor tenant, it holds naming and signage rights to Merdeka 118.
