KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 — Former MP Tony Pua has raised concerns over the government’s plan to use MyKad as the main method to claim the upcoming targeted RON95 petrol subsidy, warning it could expose Malaysians to security and financial risks. He said frequent use of MyKad at petrol stations increases the risk of misplacement, which carries heavy penalties.
MyKad losses a risk
“If you misplace your MyKad, you will be fined, and if you misplace it multiple times, the penalty could reach RM1,000,” he told Malaysiakini. Pua added many citizens may not afford such fines and suggested reviving the “Kad 95” scheme, a dedicated card for fuel subsidies, which would be more practical and avoid new infrastructure costs.
