Hong Kong Airport to Shut for 36 Hours as Super Typhoon Ragasa Nears

Hong Kong may suspend all flights for 36 hours starting Tuesday evening (23 September) as Super Typhoon Ragasa approaches with winds reaching 230km/h. The Airport Authority plans to close the terminal from 6 PM Tuesday to 6 AM Thursday. Authorities have activated the Emergency Monitoring and Support Centre, with a No. 8 warning signal expected.

Forecasters warn of storm surges up to 5 metres in Tolo Harbour, echoing past disasters like Typhoons Hato and Mangkhut. MTR light rail and buses will halt under the warning, while Greater Bay Airlines has cancelled 16 flights. Residents are urged to prepare immediately.
