National Dragon and Lion Dance Championship Sees More Teams, Students and States Join

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 23 — A total of 59 teams from 12 schools are competing in the three-day 2025 Himalaya Sports National Interschool Dragon and Lion Dance Championship, which began today. Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh said participation has grown from 52 teams last year to 59 this year, with 662 students, up from 540. Teams from Terengganu and Sabah joined for the first time. Wong noted the event showcases cultural diversity, with students from Chinese, Malay, Indian, Siamese and Orang Asli backgrounds. The competition also awards co-curricular points, encouraging more students to pursue the artform.
