JOHOR BAHRU, Sept 23 — Malaysia’s new QR code immigration clearance trial at Johor land checkpoints saw teething issues on its first day. Several Singaporean travellers reported difficulties registering on the MyNIISe app, required for generating QR codes. Private-hire driver Aloysius Tang, 32, said he failed three attempts, while another, Meganathan Megarajan, 45, was stuck on a loading page despite switching to a Malaysian network.

The trial, running until Feb 28, 2026, applies at selected car lanes at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar and Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar. First-time users must scan their passports, register with an e-mail, and generate QR codes valid for six hours. Some travellers succeeded only after connecting to a Malaysian mobile network.
