KUALA LUMPUR: The government’s revised RON95 fuel subsidy plan will save between RM2.5 billion and RM4 billion annually, far below the original RM8 billion target. Finance Minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan said the new projection is based on crude oil prices averaging US$75 (RM315) per barrel.
RON95 subsidy savings
The Budi95 plan, unveiled by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, will allow all Malaysians to purchase up to 300 litres of subsidised RON95 monthly, while e-hailing drivers can apply for higher quotas. Motorists must use MyKad or verified e-wallet apps to access the subsidy.
The scheme takes effect on Sept 30, with early access for Rahmah Cash Aid recipients. Foreigners in locally registered vehicles will pay market prices.
